Social security recipients to get one-off additional payment
************************************************************

A one-off additional payment will be made to recipients of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) as well as recipients of the Disability Allowance (DA) and the Old Age Allowance (OAA) under the Social Security Allowance (SSA) Scheme this Wednesday (July 4).

A spokesman for the Social Welfare Department (SWD) said today (July 2) that the move was part of a package of relief measures to help ease the pressure of the economic downturn on our community as announced by the Financial Secretary in his Budget Speech on February 1. The Finance Committee of the Legislative Council subsequently approved the allocation of $2.079 billion on June 1 for implementing the measures.

"The amount of the one-off additional payment for CSSA recipients and that for DA or OAA recipients is equivalent to one month's standard rate payable to different categories of recipients (such as elderly persons, children and able-bodied adults, etc) under the CSSA Scheme, and one month's DA or OAA respectively," he said.

"The money will be paid through the existing CSSA or SSA payment method, i.e. through bank payment credited to the designated bank accounts of the recipients. Thus they are not required to make an additional application."

For enquiries, recipients can call the SWD hotline on 2343 2255 or contact their respective Social Security Field Units.
