Special Traffic and Transport Arrangements for Public Events on Hong Kong Island this Saturday

     The Transport Department (TD) today (June 28) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented from Causeway Bay to Central District on Saturday (June 30) to facilitate the holding of a number of public events on Hong Kong Island on that day.

     Six public events will be held on June 30:

I. Celebration parade from Victoria Park to Hong Kong Stadium at about 12.50pm

II. Celebration event at the Hong Kong Stadium at about 1pm
-----------------------------------------------------------
    
     The parade group will depart from Victoria Park for the destination at the Hong Kong Stadium, via Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Lee Garden Road, Pak Sha Road, Yun Ping Road, Leighton Road, Caroline Hill Road and Eastern Hospital Road.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

(A) Road closure

     The following road closure and traffic diversion arrangements will be implemented from about 11.30am to facilitate the arrival of spectators:

1. The section of Caroline Hill Road between its eastern junction with Leighton Road and Cotton Path (except vehicles heading for St. Paul's Hospital during the closure of Tung Lo Wan Road);

2. The section of Hysan Avenue westbound between Sunning Road and Hoi Ping Road; and

3. Caroline Hill Road and Eastern Hospital Road will be re-routed as one-way southbound and one-way northbound respectively.

     The following roads will be closed from about 12.30pm to facilitate the holding of the celebration parade:

1. The U-turn slip road between Gloucester Road southbound and northbound;
2. the section of Gloucester Road southbound between Victoria Park Road flyover and Causeway Road will be intermittently closed;
3. Sugar Street;
4. Jardine's Bazaar;
5. the section of Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
6. the section of Hennessy Road westbound between Jardine's Bazaar and Percival Street;
7. Lee Garden Road;
8. Kai Chiu Road;
9. Pak Sha Road;
10. Yun Ping Road;
11. Lan Fong Road;
12. the section of Hysan Avenue eastbound between Yun Ping Road and Sunning Road; and
13. the section of Caroline Hill Road between its eastern junction with Leighton Road and Eastern Hospital Road.

     The following roads will be closed from about 4.15pm to facilitate the dispersal of spectators:

1. Caroline Hill Road;
2. the section of Eastern Hospital Road between Caroline Hill Road and Cotton Path;
3. Eastern Hospital Road service road;
4. Cotton Path;
5. Link Road northbound downhill, if necessary (except vehicles heading for Link Road No. 1A, 3, 5 and 7) ;
6. Hoi Ping Road; and
7. Leighton Road, if necessary.

(B) Public transport services

     During the road closure period, a total of 46 bus routes, ten green minibus routes and a residents' service route operating at the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. The service of green minibus route no. 56A will also be temporarily suspended. The concerned public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.  

III. Public procession from King's Road Playground to Central Plaza at about 3.15pm
----------------------------------------------------------------

     The procession will depart from King's Road Playground for the destination at the garden outside Central Plaza in Wan Chai, via Marble Road westbound, Kam Hong Street southbound, King's Road westbound, Causeway Road westbound, Irving Street westbound, Pennington Street northbound, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Luard Road northbound, footbridge near Luk Kwok Hotel and Gloucester Road northern pavement.

     The Police will implement intermittent closures of some traffic lanes along the procession route for the smooth conduct of the event.

IV. Public procession from Victoria Park to the Central Government Offices in Tamar at about 3.30pm
----------------------------------------------------------------

     The procession will depart from Victoria Park for the destination at Central Government Offices in Tamar, via Gloucester Road crossing, Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound, across Queensway eastbound near its junction with Queen's Road East, pavement between Harcourt Garden and Police Headquarters, Harcourt Garden footbridge, Fenwick Pier Street crossing, Performing Arts Avenue crossing, southern pavement of Lung Wui Road and western pavement of Tim Mei Avenue.    

     The Police will implement intermittent closures of some traffic lanes along the procession route for the smooth conduct of the event.

V. Public procession from Southorn Playground to Central Plaza in Wan Chai at about 4pm
----------------------------------------------------------------

     The procession will depart from Southorn Playground for the destination at the garden outside Central Plaza, crossing Hennessy Road and then via Luard Road northbound, footbridge outside Luk Kwok Centre and northern pavement of Gloucester Road.
 
     The Police will implement intermittent closures of some traffic lanes along the procession route for the smooth conduct of the event.

VI. Celebration event at Victoria Park at about 4.20pm
------------------------------------------------------

     To facilitate the holding of parachute performance, the first and second lanes from the right of Island Eastern Corridor westbound between the down-ramp leading to Hing Fat Street and Victoria Park Road; and the first lane from the right of Tsing Fung Street westbound between Hing Fat Street and Victoria Park Road will be closed until the end of the event and the traffic lanes are re-opened for traffic. During the holding of event, the Police may implement other traffic diversion and road closure arrangements whenever necessary.    

     On-street car parking spaces and car parks within the road closure areas will be suspended. Any vehicles found illegally parked within the precinct of the special traffic arrangements specified above might be towed away without prior notice.

     Due to the extensive road closure, the TD anticipated that the traffic from Causeway Bay to Central would be very congested. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport services.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on television and radio.
