*******************************************************

The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, inspected a passing-out parade for six ambulance officers, 47 firemen and 24 ambulancemen at the Fire Services Training School today (June 18).

Speaking at the parade, Mr Lee said the Fire Services Department (FSD) had won various awards in the Civil Service Outstanding Service Award Scheme 2011 and it has also, for the sixth time in a row, captured the gold prize for the Best Public Image Award, which was voted for by members of the public. These achievements prove that the FSD has gained wide recognition from the community for the quality of its service.

"To provide effective and up-to-date training to fire services and ambulance staff, the FSD has planned to redevelop the Fire Services Training School," he said.

"The new Fire Services Training School will be at Pak Shing Kok, Tseung Kwan O, covering an area of over 10 hectares. The new school will include various specialised training grounds and areas, such as a simulated carriageway and aircraft zone, urban search and rescue, and hazardous material training, etc, so as to enhance fire services and ambulance staff's professional ability in handling various incidents," Mr Lee said.

Mr Lee congratulated the graduates on their completion of stringent training and wished them all the best in fulfilling their commitment to serve the community and make Hong Kong a safer place.

The parade was followed by a demonstration of fire-fighting and rescue techniques by the graduates.

The graduates have each successfully completed 26 weeks of training and will be posted to various fire stations and ambulance depots for on-the-job training to gain field experience.
