Cluster of Influenza B cases in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (June 14):

     Four patients (aged from 45 to 74) and one staff member of a female psychiatric ward of PYNEH have presented with symptoms of influenza-like illness since June 10. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results for three patients were positive for Influenza B. The patients are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. The staff member concerned is on sick leave.

     Admission and visiting to the ward concerned have been suspended. Restricted discharge from the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients and staff members in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
