Fatal traffic accident in Lantau North

     Police are investigating a traffic accident in Lantau North today (June 13) in which a man died, 14 men and 12 women were injured.

     About 10.05am, a bus driven by a 41-year-old man was travelling along Cheung Tung Road towards Sunny Bay while a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 26-year-old man was travelling along Cheung Tung Road towards Tung Chung. When approaching near the junction with Sham Shui Kok Drive, the two vehicles reportedly collided.

     The two drivers, 13 male and 12 female bus passengers aged from 28 to 86 sustained injuries and were respectively sent to Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), Yan Chai Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Caritas Medical Centre for medical treatment. Sustaining multiple severe injuries over his body, the LGV driver was certified dead at PMH at 11.25am.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South Region are underway.

     Police urged anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer to contact the investigating officers on 3661 1300 or 3661 1348.
