The Education Bureau (EDB) today (June 13) held a seminar at Queen Elizabeth Stadium to prepare the parents of Secondary Six graduates for the release of results of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination.

The seminar also saw the launch of the electronic version of "720 Compass", a pamphlet produced by the EDB to provide graduates with essential information for the results release of the HKDSE Examination, including admission arrangements at various institutions, important dates and telephone hotlines.

The electronic version will be uploaded to the EDB website www.edb.gov.hk/nas tomorrow while the print version will be sent to schools before July 13 for distribution to students.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Secretary for Education, Dr Catherine K K Chan, said the New Academic Structure (NAS) offers a broad and balanced curriculum to students and fosters their whole-person development and lifelong learning.

"Using the standards-referenced reporting of assessment, candidates sitting for the HKDSE Examination would not be judged by whether they have secured a pass mark," she said.

"The NAS provides students with multiple pathways in respect of further studies and employment, thus enabling them to realise their potential in accordance with their interests, aptitude and ability."

During the seminar, guest speakers provided information on support measures regarding the release of HKDSE examination results, multiple pathways available to candidates and the latest information on admission arrangements of universities and post-secondary institutions, as well as career prospects for New Senior Secondary graduates.

The speakers were the Secretary General of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, Dr Tong Chong-sze; the Dean of the School of Continuing Education at the Hong Kong Baptist University cum Director of the Federation for Self-financing Tertiary Education, Dr Simon Wong; the Senior Assistant Executive Director of the Vocational Training Council, Mr Leung Yam-shing; the Executive Officer (School Liaison) of the Joint University Programmes Admissions System, Miss Phu Chi-wan; the Chairman of the Customer Liaison Group for Small and Medium Enterprises, the Trade and Industry Department, Mr Gerry Ma; and Dr Miao Yin-king.
