***********************************************************

A Cantonese opera excerpts performance will be staged in July in the Cantonese Opera Academy of Hong Kong End of Term Performance 2011/12. The rising stars discovered and nurtured in the Academy's courses will put great effort into showcasing their achievements.

The fascinating programme will draw on four Cantonese opera excerpts: "Barging in Huashan" from "Cleaving Open the Mountain to Save His Mother", "Snatching the Umbrella" from "The Blessing of the Moon", "Kneeling by the Pond" from "The Lioness Roars", and "Breaking the Royal Sedan Chair". Students of the Cantonese Opera Academy including Wan Pak-kei, Kong Chun-kit, Ng Lap-hei, Ng Sin-hang, Lee Chak-yan, Lam Yin-pok, Leung Sum-yee, Jackie Leung, Leung Fei-tung, Wong Ka-wai, Au Choi-miu, Choi Wai-ka, Kwong Tsz-wai and Tam Wing-lun will collaborate with students from the musical accompaniment and Chinese percussion classes. Coming from different streams, the young people will energise the Chinese opera performance.

The Cantonese Opera Academy of Hong Kong Training Course aims to train up playwrights, instrument accompanists and percussion accompanists, and foster potential talents to be successors of Chinese opera artists in a four-year programme, which is taught in a progressive way by professional tutors and senior artists.
