Fatal traffic accident in Lok Ma Chau

     Police are investigating a traffic accident in Lok Ma Chau today (June 13) in which a 33-year-old man died.

     About 1am, a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by the 33-year-old man was travelling along the fast lane of San Tin Highway towards Sheung Shui. When approaching San Tin, it reportedly lost control and crashed into a container truck which was travelling on the middle lane. The LGV then rammed to the left side crash barriers and the LGV driver was thrown out of the vehicle and seriously injured. A private car, which was travelling on the middle lane after the accident, lost control and also crashed into the crash barriers.

     The LGV driver was certified dead by the ambulancemen at the scene.

     After initial investigation, the 57-year-old container truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and released on bail pending further enquiries.

     Investigations by Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North are underway.

     Police urged anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer to contact the investigating officers on 3661 3800.
