The winners of the Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development 2012 were announced today (June 12). With outstanding landscape design and excellent horticultural maintenance, 13 private properties received gold awards.
In addition to the 13 gold awards, 33 merit awards were given at a prize presentation ceremony held by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to commend organisations for their efforts in greening and to enhance public awareness of green issues.
The Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development 2012 aims to sustain the betterment of the living environment in private property and to promote excellence in greening by outstanding landscape design and horticultural maintenance.
Launched in 2000, the Best Landscape Award is organised once every two years. The response this year was satisfactory, with over 260 nominated entries. In the non-residential property category, the number of entries increased 20 per cent compared with the last award, showing that many more private organisations have put emphasis on greening in schools, shopping malls and commercial buildings.
The overall standard of the nominated projects was also high. Professionals have added green elements to the properties at the planning and development stages of the projects. In addition to the appearance of green features, sustainability, enhancement to urban livability, and the involvement of users were also considered. Property management and maintenance professionals have also kept good care of the landscape to offer quality greening areas to the public.
Officiating at the ceremony, which was held at the Hong Kong Central Library Exhibition Gallery today, were the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mrs Betty Fung; the Patron of the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), Sir David Akers-Jones; the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, Mr Dominic Lam; the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, Mr Wong Tak-yip; the Chairman of the Professional Green Building Council, Mr Sam Cheng; the President of the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies, Mr Alkin Kwong; and the Honorary Treasurer of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Mr Gary Yeung.
The Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development 2012 was organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), and co-organised by the Home Affairs Department, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, the Professional Green Building Council, and the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies.
The Best Landscape Award is presented in three categories. The awardees are as follows:
