EPD holds exhibition in Tsim Sha Tsui on idling engine ban (with photos)
***********************************************************

The Under Secretary for the Environment, Dr Kitty Poon, visited the exhibition on the Motor Vehicle Idling (Fixed Penalty) Ordinance in Tsim Sha Tsui this afternoon (June 11) and urged motorists to develop green driving habits so as to reduce the environmental nuisance caused by stationary vehicles with running engines.

"With the arrival of summer, we have been strengthening the publicity and enforcement activities in different districts to urge drivers to comply with the idling engine ban. Since the implementation of the Ordinance, Traffic Wardens have been taking action against drivers contravening the law during their routine patrol duty. We have also reminded drivers to switch off the idling engines of stationary vehicles by distributing leaflets on the streets, staging outdoor roving exhibitions and providing publicity through various platforms," said Dr Poon.

The Environment Protection Department (EPD) is holding an outdoor roving exhibition at the Urban Council Centenary Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui to enhance public understanding of the major provisions of the Ordinance and to promote the green driving habit among drivers.

Members of the public are cordially invited to visit the roving exhibitions, which have been held across Hong Kong since May. Details of the exhibitions being staged in June and July are listed below.
