Correctional staff discover person in custody attempting self-harm

Officers of the Correctional Services Department discovered a person in custody attempting self-harm at Lai King Correctional Institution this afternoon (June 9).
The female person in custody, aged 15, tried to harm herself by swallowing shampoo inside the institution. Immediate counselling was given to her by staff and she was sent to outside hospital for treatment. Her condition is stable and she will be arranged to see clinical psychologist for further assessment and counselling.
She was sentenced to jail for theft in 2010.
