Correctional staff discover person in custody attempting self-harm

Officers of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) yesterday (June 4) discovered a person in custody attempting self-harm at Lai King Correctional Institution.
The female prisoner, aged 18, tried to harm herself by swallowing foreign objects while inside the institution. She was sent to an outside hospital for treatment. Her condition is stable and she will be given psychological counselling.
She was sentenced to jail last year for trafficking in a dangerous drug.
