SCED to attend APEC ministerial meeting in Russia

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, will depart for Kazan, Russia, today (June 3) to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT).

     Mr So will attend the MRT Meeting tomorrow (June 4), during which trade ministers from APEC member economies will discuss the four priorities for APEC this year. They are trade and investment liberalisation, regional economic integration; strengthening food security; establishing reliable supply chains; and intensive co-operation to foster innovative growth.

     Ministers will also exchange views on the prospects of the Doha Development Agenda (DDA) negotiations in the World Trade Organization (WTO). The Director-General of the WTO, Mr Pascal Lamy, will brief ministers on the state of play of the DDA negotiations.

     Mr So will be back in Hong Kong on Wednesday morning (June 6).
