SWD to introduce new provision of Residential Care Supplement under CSSA Scheme
***************************************************

The Social Welfare Department (SWD) announced today (May 30) that a new Residential Care Supplement (RCS) of $265 per month will be introduced on June 1, 2012, under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme for recipients aged 60 or above, as well as recipients with disabilities or in ill health of any age, who occupy non-subsidised residential care places.

"As announced by the Chief Executive in the 2011-12 Policy Address, the new supplement aims to ease the financial burden of the CSSA recipients concerned," a spokesman for the SWD said.

"Some 30 000 recipients will benefit from the new initiative with an additional recurrent expenditure of about $101 million per year."

"Eligible CSSA recipients are not required to make an application for the RCS, which will automatically be credited into their designated bank account for CSSA payment with effect from June 2012," he added.

For enquiries, please call the SWD's Social Security Field Units or its hotline at 2343 2255, or visit the SWD homepage at www.swd.gov.hk.
