Talented vocalists to showcase Italian operas in Hong Kong
**********************************************************

Four promising vocalists from Italy's Accademia del Teatro alla Scala (La Scala) will perform in the concert "Opera Passione" in June.

Sopranos Shi Young Jung and Francesca Ruospo, together with tenor Jaeheui Kwon and baritone Filippo Fontana, accompanied by pianist Antonella Poli, will present an array of excerpts from opera classics by Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti, Cilea, Verdi and Puccini.

La Scala's dedication to the nurturing of new talent began in 1813 when the theatre opened the School of Ballet, an institution that today is internationally recognised as one of the best of its kind. The theatre's calling to encourage the growth of new talent was further strengthened in the 1950s with the founding of the Scala Cadets to provide historic continuity for the traditional Italian lyrical opera.

In 2001 the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala became a private foundation, taking on the structure it has today which covers a multitude of professions tied to the performing arts and a wide offering of courses for training, specialisation and workshops.

"Opera Passione" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be held at 8pm on June 29 (Friday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall.
