Update on cluster of upper respiratory tract infection cases at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on an outbreak of upper respiratory tract infections in a female psychiatric ward, the spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following update today (May 23):

     One more patient (aged 43) has presented with symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection. The patient is being treated under isolation and she is in a stable condition. Appropriate viral tests have been arranged for the patient and the results are pending.

     All admissions and visiting to the ward concerned remain suspended. Restricted discharge from the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients and staff members in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
