Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 689 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 30 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a one-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7pm today (May 21) and a total of 260 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 485 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 204 for other traffic offences.  

     Statistics revealed that a total of 1034 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to April this year, of which 358 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 50.3 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
