CEEO clarifies newspaper reports
********************************

In response to media enquiries, the Chief Executive-elect's Office (CEEO) stated that the news reports on the extension of the service term of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Airport Authority (AA) and the appointment of the Chairman of the AA in Apple Daily today (May 21) and last Wednesday (May 16) are totally groundless.

A spokesman for the CEEO said that since the extension of the service term of the CEO of the AA, Mr Stanley Hui Hon-chong, is to take effect next year, it is only fair and reasonable for the Chief Executive to seek the comments of the Chief Executive-elect (CE-elect) before confirming Mr Hui's appointment. There is no question of intervention from the CE-elect.

As to the report last Wednesday on speculation that the Chairman of the AA, Dr Marvin Cheung Kin-tung, might not be able to complete his three-year term due to expected changes to the membership of the Executive Council (ExCo) after the CE-elect assumes office, the spokesman said that the report was inaccurate.

The spokesman said that Dr Cheung's term of office will not expire until May 2014, and that the CE-elect had never considered any premature termination of Dr Cheung's appointment. Also, Dr Cheung's term of office has nothing to do with the composition of ExCo.
