Stage 3 Kai Tak North Apron Area Infrastructure Works gazetted

     The Government published a notice in the Gazette today (May 18) on the Stage 3 Kai Tak North Apron Area Infrastructure Works under the Kai Tak Development project. The proposed works are part of the infrastructure works serving the proposed government, institution or community facilities, comprehensive development area, commercial and other specified uses in the North Apron Area of Kai Tak Airport.

     The proposed works include:

(i) construction of carriageways and slip roads ("proposed roads") approximately 1,900 metres long in total and associated footpaths;
(ii) construction of a landscaped elevated walkway approximately 285m long across Prince Edward Road East;
(iii) construction of an underpass to form part of the proposed roads;
(iv) construction of two sections of a pedestrian subway approximately 255m long in total across Prince Edward Road East and part of the proposed roads;
(v) construction of a pedestrian subway extension approximately 60m long;
(vi) widening and re-alignment of Concorde Road and Eastern Road to form part of the proposed roads;
(vii) temporary closure and reconstruction of sections of the existing carriageways and footpaths;
(viii) permanent closure of sections of the existing carriageways and conversion of parts of the closed sections into footpaths, amenity area, central medians or traffic islands;
(ix) permanent closure of sections of the existing footpaths and conversion of parts of the closed sections into carriageways, amenity area, central medians or traffic islands;
(x) permanent closure and demolition of the existing flyover across Prince Edward Road East and Eastern Road; and
(xi) ancillary works including drainage, water, utility and landscaping works.

     The proposed works will start in 2013 and are expected to complete in 2019.

     Any person who wishes to object to the proposed works or the use, or both, should write to the Secretary for Transport and Housing, 22/F, East Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong, on or before July 17, 2012.
