Correctional staff seize suspected dangerous drugs
**************************************************

Officers of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) today (May 14) swiftly stopped the smuggling of dangerous drugs into Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre by a remand inmate.

The male inmate, aged 40, was admitted to the centre last Saturday (May 12) for the offence of trafficking in a dangerous drug. During a security check, officers found that he had discharged today 10 pieces of suspected dangerous drugs wrapped in plastic.

The CSD spokesperson said, "The department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there. We are committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody."

The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

There have been 68 seizures of dangerous drugs this year to date. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
