In response to an allegation against possible unauthorised building works at the balcony of his premises on Mount Kellett Road, the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (May 14) made the following statement:

"I moved into the premises in 2004 and no alteration and addition works have been carried out at the balcony. The whole building was given a facelift in 2008. The Buildings Department (BD) conducted an inspection of the building before the commencement of renovation. On the advice of the BD, I removed a canopy which was installed inside my premises before I moved in. The BD did not give further advice on whether there were other items that needed to be followed up.

To put all things beyond doubt, I have contacted the BD to follow up on the 2008 inspection records. I will also appoint an authorised person to inspect the premises."
