Police open fire in Cheung Sha Wan

     Police are investigating a Police open fire case in which a 36-year-old man died and a 45-year-old man was injured in Cheung Sha Wan last night (May 11).

     At about 9.40pm, a traffic police officer found a private car stopped on carriageway outside 155 Castle Peak Road during patrol. Four to five men armed with beef knives alighted the car and chopped the 45-year-old man. The police officer gave three verbal warnings to the culprits but in vain. One of the culprits, the 36-year-old man, even attempted to attack the officer. The officer fired one shot at the man. An off-duty police officer witnessed the incident and assisted to subdue the man. Other culprits fled from the scene.  

     The 36-year-old man sustained shot wound to his back while the 45-year-old man sustained multiple chop wounds to his body. Both were sent to the Caritas Medical Centre for medical treatment. The 36-year-old man was later certified dead at 10.28pm.

     Investigations by the Regional Anti-triad Unit of Kowloon West are under way.
