The Director of the Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in Beijing (Beijing Office), Mr Thomas Tso, today (May 11) launched a series of roving exhibitions in northern, north-eastern and north-western China to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR.

The first stop of the roving exhibitions is the 19th China Tianjin Investment and Trade Fair in Tianjin, the largest annual trade event in the municipality.

Introducing the Hong Kong booth to Tianjin municipal officials, Mr Tso said that with the successful implementation of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle and the strong support from the Central Government, Hong Kong continued to flourish economically and maintained its position as one of the most competitive places in the world.

"In the past 15 years, we have also attained achievements on many fronts, and our co-operation and exchanges with the Mainland have deepened and expanded at an unprecedented rate.

"The National 12th Five-Year Plan promulgated last year has for the first time dedicated a chapter to Hong Kong and Macao, which elaborates on the significant functions and positioning of Hong Kong in the development strategy of the country," Mr Tso said.

He noted that Hong Kong would seize this valuable opportunity and contribute to the development of the country.

Mr Tso said the roving exhibitions are aimed at giving Mainland audiences a better understanding of Hong Kong's developments in the past 15 years, in particular the strengths of its four pillar industries and the potential of its six growth industries.

"We also hope that Mainland businessmen and investors would learn more about the opportunities presented by Hong Kong with a view to forging closer economic co-operation and partnership between the two places," he added.

The roving exhibitions will be held in the coming months of 2012 and will tour more than 10 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions under the purview of the Beijing Office.
