Acclaimed harmonica player Ho Kit-fun to give concert of classics and new pieces

     Acclaimed local harmonica player Ho Kit-fun will give a recital in June featuring classics and new pieces. Sam Khan will perform as accompanist on harp and piano.

     This enriching programme includes classical pieces such as Bach's "Air on the G String", Tchaikovsky's "June: Barcarolle" from "The Seasons", and Dinicu's "Hora Staccato" arranged by Heifetz. New pieces will include composer Mui Kwong-chiu's "Prelude for Harmonica", which is to be permiered at the recital, and Hui Cheung-wai's "Fantasy on 'A Love Before Time'".

     Ho is widely admired for his unique and persuasive tone and has been recognised by harmonica legend Tommy Reilly and local maestro Fung On, both of them whom have taught Ho. Along with Yeung Yuet-bor, Ho won first prize in the chromatic duos at the Third International Harmonica Competition 1966/67 in Germany, a first for Hong Kong.

     Since 1975, Ho has given five recitals at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall, presented variously by the former Urban Council and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. His other appearances include the opening ceremony of the First Hong Kong Harmonica Festival 2003, the Gala Concert at the Tommy Reilly Foundation Launch in 2008 in the United Kingdom, the 2006 Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival in Taipei, the 2008 Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival in Hangzhou, and at Hong Kong Week during the Shanghai EXPO 2010.

     Sam Khan was born in Hong Kong and received her Master's Degree in Music from King's College, University of London, in 2005. She is also a first class honours music graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. While in the United Kingdom she studied piano with Professor Diana Ketler at the Royal Academy of Music. She has also had privileged lessons with Ma Cong, Dr Mo Cheung-yu and Dr Cheng Wai. Sam has been honoured with several awards and has performed with various soloists in Hong Kong. She is currently headmistress of a music learning institution.

     "Harmonica Recital by Ho Kit-fun", presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be staged at 8pm on June 11 (Monday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $160 and $110 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and the minder, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-serve basis).
