Court supporting offices to be open on afternoons of Christmas Eve and Lunar New Year's Eve

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal (Amendment) Rules 2012, the Rules of the High Court (Amendment) Rules 2012 and the Rules of the District Court (Amendment) Rules 2012 were gazetted today (May 11) and will be tabled at the Legislative Council for negative vetting on May 16.

     The Amendment Rules seek to provide for the supporting offices of the Court of Final Appeal, the High Court and the District Court to be generally open on the afternoons of a Christmas Eve and a Lunar New Year's Eve. These offices include Registries and Accounts Offices.

     At present the supporting offices are closed to the public on the afternoons of a Christmas Eve and a Lunar New Year's Eve, except for handling certain matters.

     The target commencement date of the amendments is July 13.
