Summer Music Workshops for young children to explore their interest in music
***********************************************************

Experiencing music via interactive activities is one of the best ways to develop children's interest in music. "Summer Music Workshops - First Music Lessons" will be held during the summer holidays for young kids to explore their interest in music and acquire some basic music knowledge.

Organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the interactive fun workshops "Summer Music Workshops - First Music Lessons" will be held from July 3 to August 29 at 15 venues throughout the territory. Children aged 4 to 6 who have not received any music training are welcome to apply. Each child has to be accompanied by an adult. The deadline for application is June 4.

The workshops, to be conducted in Cantonese, will consist of five sessions in which children will be introduced to diverse Chinese and Western orchestral instruments, as well as basic music knowledge on music notes and rhythms. The workshops will be held with musical games and interactive activities to train children to strengthen their rhythmic sense, listening skills and concentration.

The tuition fee for the five workshops is $200. A ballot will be drawn if the workshops are oversubscribed. For workshops not fully taken up after the deadline, applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those who attend all five workshops will be given a certificate of attendance and will be invited to join one of the musical instrument demonstration sessions to be held on August 30 and 31.

Application forms are available at the Music Office's website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/CulturalService/MusicOffice/en/events_2012_04_25.php. For enquiries, please call 2158 6466 or 2582 5321.
