Local arts group We Draman to perform "Messiah" in June
*******************************************************

Hong Kong-based arts group We Draman will perform British playwright Steven Berkoff's "Messiah" in June.

Noting how people look up to Jesus, worship him and let themselves be guided by him, the theatre production asks if that is just because we are willing to be taken in.

In the play, Berkoff, who is known for his macabre humour, reconstructs a "Jesus" who is a revolutionary and a politician, capable of manipulating history and popular opinion to achieve his aims. To fulfil a hyped-up prophecy, Jesus goes about staging his own resurrection as a stunt show with the support of his 12 disciples.

"Messiah" is directed and performed by Tang Wai-kit. Apart from Tang, the cast also includes Sit Hoi-fai, Chan Kwan-kin, Chu Pak-him, Fong Chun-kit, Yip Hing-wah, Ip Man-chong, Ka Chak-lun, Lam Tsz-kit, Law Chung-kin, Mung Kit, Sung Boon-ho and Yu Kin-sang.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Messiah" will be performed in Cantonese at 8pm on June 15 and 16 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on June 16 and 17 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Theatre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre. Tickets priced at $120 and $180 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients. (Limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.) A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for the group booking package.
