Cluster of respiratory symptoms cases in Tai Po Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Tai Po Hospital made the following announcement today (May 3):

     Six patients aged 20 to 84 and three staff members in the hospital's male psychogeriatric and rehabilitation ward have presented with respiratory symptoms since April 27. Appropriate tests have been arranged and were found negative for Influenza A, B and Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The patients are being treated under isolation are in stable condition, while the staff members were recovered.

     Visiting to the ward concerned has been suspended and measures to restrict discharge activities have also been implemented. The hospital has stepped up infection control measures and the condition of other patients in the ward is under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
