A 33-year-old man was sentenced to an eight-week imprisonment for making a false report of commission of offence and causing wasteful employment of the Police at Fanling Magistrates・ Courts today (May 2).
On August 12, 2011, the 33-year-old man was brought up at Shatin Magistrates・ Courts for sentence of a ．Criminal Damage・ case. After his court appearance, the man lodged a complaint that he was assaulted by a police officer at Shatin Magistrates・ Courts on the same day.
A full investigation by Complaint Against Police Office discovered that the allegation was false. Legal advice was sought and charges were laid against the man on January 16, 2012. He finally pleaded guilty and the sentence was handed down today.
A Police spokesman reiterates that knowingly making a false report against a police officer is a serious offence and any person violating the law may be prosecuted.
