Special traffic arrangements for public procession on Hong Kong Island

     Police will implement special traffic arrangements tomorrow (May 1) to facilitate public processions to be held in Wan Chai and Central District.

(A) Road closure

     The following roads will be closed from 11.15am onwards until the crowd has dispersed:

1. A section of northbound Luard Road between Johnston Road and Hennessy Road will be intermittently closed;
2. A section of eastbound Hennessy Road between Luard Road and Fleming Road;
3. A section of northbound Fleming Road between Hennessy Road and Lockhart Road;
4. Fleming Road Flyover; and
5. A section of westbound Harbour Road, westbound Fenwick Pier Street and westbound Lung Wui Road will be intermittently closed.

     The following roads will be closed from 2pm onwards until the crowd has dispersed:

1. The u-turn slip road between southbound and northbound Gloucester Road;
2. Sugar Street;
3. Irving Street (except vehicles heading for Regal Hong Kong Hotel);
4. Jardine's Bazaar;
5. Tang Lung Street; and
6. A section of Canal Road East between Hennessy Road and Russell Street.

     The following roads will be closed from 2.30pm onwards until the crowd has dispersed:

1. A section of southbound Gloucester Road between Victoria Park Road Flyover and Causeway Road (if necessary);
2. A section of westbound Yee Wo Street between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
3. A section of Yun Ping Road between Kai Chiu Road and Pak Sha Road;
4. Kai Chiu Road;
5. A section of Lee Garden Road between Kai Chiu Road and Hennessy Road;
6. A section of westbound Hennessy Road between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road; and
7. A section of Canal Road West between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
8. A section of Wan Chai Road between Canal Road West and Morrison Hill Road;
9. A section of Bowrington Road between Sharp Street West and Hennessy Road;
10. A section of westbound Hennessy Road west of Lee Garden Road and Queensway and will be intermittently closed;
11. The slip road leading from eastbound Johnston Road to westbound Hennessy Road;
12. Rodney Street;
13. A section of westbound Harcourt Road between the exit of Harcourt Garden car park and Tamar Street;
14. The fast lane of westbound Harcourt Road between Tamar Street and Cotton Tree Drive;
15. A section of eastbound Harcourt Road between Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue;
16. A section of southbound Tim Wa Avenue (except vehicles heading for Chief Executive Office and Central Government Offices car park);
17. The fast lane of Garden Road Flyover; and
18. A section of southbound Edinburgh Place between Lung Wo Road and Connaught Road Central.

(B) Traffic Diversion

     The following traffic diversion will be implemented from 11.15am onwards until the crowd has dispersed:

1. Traffic along eastbound Hennessy Road must turn left to northbound Luard Road (except franchised buses);
2. Traffic along westbound Hennessy Road cannot turn right to northbound Fleming Road;
3. Traffic along Lockhart Road cannot enter Fleming Road Flyover;
4. Traffic along southbound Fleming Road cannot enter southbound Fleming Road Flyover;
5. Traffic along westbound Harbour Road cannot turn left to southbound Fleming Road Flyover; and
6. Traffic along westbound Fenwick Pier Street cannot enter westbound Lung Wui Road.

     The following traffic diversion will be implemented from 2pm onwards until the crowd has dispersed:

1. Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road cannot turn right to northbound Gloucester Road;
2. Traffic along eastbound Yee Wo Street cannot turn left to Sugar Street;
3. Traffic along westbound Causeway Road cannot turn right to westbound Irving Street (except vehicles heading for Regal Hong Kong Hotel) and must turn to westbound Leighton Road;
4. Traffic along westbound Irving Street will be diverted to turn right to northbound Pennington Street;
5. Traffic along northbound Pennington Street will be diverted to turn right to eastbound Yee Wo Street;
6. Traffic along westbound Russell Street will be diverted to turn left to southbound Canal Road East; and
7. Traffic along westbound Hennessy Road cannot turn left to Canal Road East.

     The following traffic diversion will be implemented from 2.30pm onwards until the crowd has dispersed:

1. Traffic along southbound Victoria Park Road Flyover will be diverted to turn right to westbound Gloucester Road Service Road (if necessary);
2. Traffic along southbound Gloucester Road heading for Causeway Road will be diverted to southbound Tai Hang Road Flyover (if necessary);
3. Traffic along eastbound Great George Street will be diverted to turn left to northbound Gloucester Road (except vehicles heading for southbound Tai Hang Road Flyover);
4. Traffic along northbound Yun Ping Road will be diverted to turn left to Pak Sha Road or Lan Fong Road;
5. Traffic along northbound Canal Road West near Sharp Street West will be diverted to the up-ramp leading to northbound Canal Road Flyover;
6. Traffic along eastbound Sharp Street West cannot turn left to northbound Bowrington Road and will be diverted to the up-ramp leading to northbound Canal Road Flyover;
7. Traffic along northbound Bowrington Road will be diverted to turn right to eastbound Sharp Street West;
8. Traffic along eastbound Wan Chai Road will be diverted to turn right to southbound Morrison Hill Road;
9. Traffic along southbound Stewart Road cannot turn right to westbound Hennessy Road;
10. Traffic along southbound and northbound Fleming Road cannot turn to westbound Hennessy Road;
11. Traffic along southbound Fenwick Street cannot turn right to westbound Hennessy Road;
12. Traffic along westbound Harcourt Road near the exit of Harcourt Garden car park will be diverted to westbound Harcourt Road Flyover;
13. Traffic along eastbound Harcourt Road will be diverted to turn right to southbound Cotton Tree Drive;
14. Traffic along northbound Cotton Tree Drive will be diverted to northbound Tim Wa Avenue; and
15. Traffic along Lung Wo Road cannot enter Tim Wa Avenue (except vehicles heading for Chief Executive Office and Central Government Offices car park) and southbound Edinburgh Place.

(C) Suspension of bus stops

     All bus stops along southbound Gloucester Road, Irving Street, westbound Yee Wo Street, westbound Hennessy Road, Rodney Street, and Admiralty (East) Public Transport Interchange will be suspended from 2pm until the crowd has dispersed.

(D) Green minibus (GMB) diversion

     GMB Routes 10, 11, 24M, 31 and 40 will be diverted from 2pm until the crowd has dispersed.

(E) Suspension of public light bus (PLB) and GMB stands

     The PLB stand on Sugar Street and the GMB stand on Tang Lung Street will be temporarily suspended from 2pm until the crowd has dispersed.

(F) Restriction on access to / exit from car parks

     All car parks along westbound Harbour Road, westbound Hennessy Road and Rodney Street may be closed at short notice if necessary. In addition, vehicles may not be permitted to leave or access to car parks along the procession routes during the road closure period.

     Any vehicles found illegally parked within the precinct of the special traffic arrangements specified above might be towed away without prior notice.

     Members of the public are advised to use public transport service and avoid driving to the affected areas.

     Motorists should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion and take heed of instructions of Police at scene.
