Handbook provides information on multiple pathways for secondary school graduates
*******************************************************

The e-version of the "Careers Guidance Handbook for Secondary School Graduates 2012" has been uploaded onto the Information Portal for Accredited Post-secondary Programmes (iPASS) website (www.ipass.gov.hk) today (April 26). Print copies will be available in early May.

The handbook, jointly compiled by the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters (HKACMGM), provides comprehensive information on progression to full-time accredited post-secondary degree and sub-degree programmes, the New Yi Jin Diploma, vocational education and training and other career paths for secondary school graduates.

"There are two cohorts of graduates this year, namely, the last cohort of the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) and the first cohort of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Examination (HKDSE) Education. In order to provide them with early access to information on multiple study pathways for secondary school graduates and to better prepare them for the release of the examination results, the e-version of the handbook is uploaded two months ahead of the release of the examination results," an EDB spokesman said.

Apart from detailed programme information of individual post-secondary institutions for the academic year 2012/13, the handbook also contains student guidance articles contributed by EDB colleagues and HKACMGM members about exploring multiple pathways under the New Academic Structure, how to prepare for the release of the HKDSE and HKALE results, tips for choosing post-secondary programmes, and more.  For the first time, the handbook also includes short articles contributed by some post-secondary students or graduates to share their learning experience and school life.

In addition, the handbook provides information about the Electronic Advance Application System for Post-secondary Programmes (E-APP) and e-Navigator, which are new e-platforms to help graduates' make online applications for post-secondary programmes and search for programme information. Also included is a contact list of education and advisory organisations.

Graduates can obtain print copies of the handbook free of charge in early May from their schools. Copies will also be available at the EDB's Regional Education Offices, the Labour Department's Youth Employment Start and Job Centres, and the Home Affairs Department's public enquiry service centres.
