Hong Kong Customs (Customs) yesterday (April 25) foiled a drug trafficking attempt by a passenger at the Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 5.5 kilogrammes of heroin concealed inside video camera batteries, with an estimated street value of about $4.3 million. A 23-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were arrested.
Customs officers yesterday (April 25) afternoon intercepted a female passenger arriving from Islamabad, Pakistan at the Arrival Hall of the airport and seized about 5.5 kilogrammes of heroin. The drugs were concealed inside 275 video camera batteries in a checked-in suitcase. After investigation, Customs officers arrested a male passenger who had been on the same flight as the female passenger.
Both arrested persons will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (April 27).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
