Response by CE-elect to motion debate
*************************************

The Chief Executive-elect, Mr C Y Leung, responds to the debate on the motion "Making recommendations to the fourth term Chief Executive" by Legislative Council (LegCo) Members today (April 25) as follows:

"I would like to thank LegCo Members for making recommendations to me. Their views and proposals are largely in line with my governing concept and I have addressed many of the issues of public concern in my election manifesto. We should treasure the core values of Hong Kong, including the rule of law, clean government, freedom and democracy. I and my governing team will work with LegCo Members to safeguard these values staunchly as they are the foundation of Hong Kong's prosperity and stability. I will adhere strictly to the principles of 'One country, Two systems', 'Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong' and a high degree of autonomy according to the Basic Law.  I hope LegCo Members will continue to offer advice after I assume office. I shall listen humbly to their views and draw on their wisdom. Working with all Members and the community, I will promote democracy, develop the economy, improve people's livelihood and build a better Hong Kong."
