Correctional officers prevent smuggling of dangerous drugs
**********************************************************

The Correctional Services Department takes every measure to prevent the smuggling of dangerous drugs into correctional institutions and to eradicate their presence there, a department spokesperson said today (April 25).

"The department is committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for all people in its custody," the spokesperson said.

The comments followed the seizure of suspected dangerous drugs from the luggage of an inmate yesterday.

The 16-year-old female had been remanded to Lai King Correctional Institution on a charge of robbery.

During a security search, officers found in her luggage two plastic bags of suspected dangerous drugs and a suspected inhaling instrument.

The case has been reported to the Police.

There have been 62 seizures of dangerous drugs this year to date. Most seizures were made in reception centres.
