The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding the recent confirmation of a number of patients with Norovirus and Respiratory Syncytial Virus in a male severe mentally handicapped ward, the spokesperson for Siu Lam Hospital made the following update today (April 25):
One more male patient (aged 41) in the ward has presented with vomiting and respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests have been arranged for the patient and the test results are pending. The patient concerned has been transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment under isolation and is in a stable condition.
Admission to and discharge from the ward have been suspended. Restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
