The State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM) of the Ministry of Health, People's Republic of China, has today (April 24) appointed the Director of Health, Dr P Y Lam, and the Chairman of the Hospital Authority, Mr Anthony Wu, as its Chinese Medicine International Collaboration Principal Advisers. The appointment is for a term of five years.
The Commissioner of SATCM, Professor Wang Guoqiang, paid a high tribute to their wealth of experience in medical and public health management in today's ceremony. The SATCM is looking forward to engaging the two veterans in helping the Chinese medicine in the Mainland move towards internationalisation. The appointments were recommended by the SATCM to the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO) of the State Council. With HKMAO's support, Professor Wang today conferred the appointment letters to Dr Lam and Mr Wu in Beijing.
Both Dr Lam and Mr Wu said they were honoured to be appointed.
Dr Lam said that Hong Kong SAR Government has been heavily engaged in international collaboration for furthering the development of Chinese medicine in recent years, covering the safe, quality use and efficacious use of, as well as evidence-based practice of Chinese Medicine. By virtue of his public service experience and broad national and international social network, Dr Lam looks forward to giving useful advice to the SATCM, helping to add an international perspective to the development of Chinese medicine in the Mainland, as well as strengthening exchanges and co-operation between Hong Kong and the Mainland.
Mr Wu said that the Hospital Authority has accumulated precious experience in managing Chinese medicine centres through "tripartite collaboration", a model commended by the Ministry of Health. These centres not only promote the development of evidence-based Chinese medicine practice and clinical research, provide post-graduate training to junior Chinese practitioners, but also bring in a modernised Chinese medicine information system. Mr Wu looks forward to sharing his experience with the SATCM and would endeavour to play a part in the internationalisation of the Chinese medicine industry in Mainland and the modernisation of Chinese medicine information management.
