The Chief Executive-elect's Office issued the following statement today (April 20) to clarify a misquote in a Financial Times (FT) article published yesterday:
The article "A majority to accommodate" in FT yesterday quoted the Chief Executive-elect (CE-elect), Mr C Y Leung, as saying that his proposals to address imbalances in the economy include "forcing business to provide more subsidised housing". The CE-elect has not made such a remark, neither was such a proposal included in his manifesto.
What the CE-elect said was "As far as housing is concerned, my proposal is to fill in the gap (between property prices and what people can afford) by providing subsidised housing, including public rental units and Home Ownership Scheme units".
The on-line version of FT has been amended accordingly.
