Operation on public light bus safety

     Police conducted a territory-wide operation to promote public light bus (PLB) safety yesterday (April 17). The operation included the deployment of plainclothes officers on board of PLBs to observe driving manner of the drivers.

     A total of 17 operations were mounted. As a result, 42 fixed penalty tickets were issued against PLB drivers for various traffic offences, including using a mobile telephone while the vehicle is in motion, failing to comply with traffic signs, and allowing passengers alight or on board the vehicles in restricted zone. Another 46 summonses were issued to passengers for not wearing seatbelts. In addition, seven verbal warnings were issued to PLB drivers for failing to display speed limit sign inside PLB compartment.

     The Police will continue to mount similar operations to promote road safety.
