Patient lookback concluded with negative results in all blood tests

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority (HA) has completed a patient lookback exercise which commenced on March 26, 2012 following the recommendations of the Expert Panel on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Infection of Health Care Workers under the Department of Health on a case concerning a health care worker infected with HIV.
  
     The HA spokesman today (April 18) said the Authority has reported to the Expert Panel the successful contact of 137 patients, among which 130 patients agreed to be referred to the assessment clinic for further clinical advice and tests. All blood tests for HIV infection have indicated negative results.

     During the lookback period, a total of 203 telephone calls have been received by the HA telephone enquiry service.
