Workshops to reveal the mysterious world of shadow puppetry
***********************************************************

Fantasy Puppet Theatre will hold "The World Behind the Shadow Workshop" in May. Featuring live demonstrations, the workshops will allow patrons to see how manually controlled shadow puppets create fun-filled images.

Tailor-made for children and their parents, workshop activities will include demonstrations of traditional and modern shadow puppetry, showing how the puppets are manipulated, learning the techniques for controlling the puppets, plus a question-and-answer session and photo-taking opportunities. Through lively introductions from the instructors, participants will learn more about various types of puppets and their characteristics. The instructors will also use three different kinds of light sources to re-run some highlights of past productions. The audience will be able to learn how to control the puppets and be involved in constructing a wonderful world of light and shadow.

Established in 2005, Fantasy Puppet Theatre works with a wide range of techniques to produce original puppet shows for children and their parents. Three key members in the troupe - Chen Ying-ching, Lam Mei-yee and Yip Wai-bun - manage all stories, puppets, music creation and puppet performances. The diverse backgrounds of the members help the troupe to explore and enrich all possibilities of modern children's puppet theatre using a multifaceted approach.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "The World Behind the Shadow Workshop" by Fantasy Puppet Theatre will be staged at 8pm on May 25 (Friday) at the Theatre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre, and at 4pm on May 26 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre.
