In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, "International Military Tattoo", Hong Kong's first military tattoo spectacular featuring some 1,000 representatives from world-famous military bands, will be held in June.

"International Military Tattoo" is presented by the Home Affairs Bureau, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and proudly sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong).

A press conference for the performances was held today (April 11) to showcase the delightful programme. Present at the press conference were the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Raymond Young; the Artistic Advisor and Chief Director for the Tattoo, Chairman of the China Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, Mr Yu Hai; the representative of the sole sponsor, Bank of China (Hong Kong) Chief Financial Officer Mr Zhuo Chengwen; and the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mrs Betty Fung. Also attending were representatives from several military bands.

The show will feature military bands from all over the world including the Military Band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the Military Band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy, the Guard of Honour of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison, the Royal Australian Navy Band, the Russian Frontier Guard Band, the Bursa Mehter Band of Turkey, the Pipes and Drums of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, the 8th US Army Band, the Hong Kong Police Band, the Girl Students Marching Band of Jiangxi Normal University and O'Shea-Ryan Irish Dancers Australia. Also set to perform in the shows is the Hong Kong Association of Choral Societies.

One of the attractions will be the marching band performance "Ode to the Motherland" by the Military Band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. With innovative instrumentation, Chinese music elements and stunning formations, the band will play while marching and will offer a fitting tribute to the motherland, Hong Kong and all ethnic groups of China as a whole-hearted wish for continuous prosperity, growth, unity and harmony.

Other bands will bring to Hong Kong patrons an enriching programme including marching and military music performance, popular classical music, folk music, dance and more.

"International Military Tattoo" will be staged at 8pm from June 22 to 24 (Friday to Sunday) at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
