Man jailed for counterfeit banknotes offences

     A 37-year-old man was sentenced to 31 months' imprisonment for counterfeit banknotes related offences at the District Court today (April 10).

     The court heard that officers of the Commercial Crime Bureau arrested the 37-year-old man at Java Road Market in North Point on July 5, 2011. Four counterfeit $100 banknotes were found in his possession.

     During a subsequent house search at the man¡¦s residence on Pei Ho Street in Sham Shui Po, Police found 35 counterfeit $100 banknotes and two genuine notes with the same serial numbers on the counterfeit notes. Two notebook computers, two all-in-one printers and a number of stationery items fit for making counterfeit notes were also seized.

     The man was subsequently charged with one count of counterfeiting notes, three counts of passing counterfeit notes and one count of custody of counterfeiting notes. He pleaded guilty to all the charges and was sentenced to jail today.
