Fatal traffic accident in Western Division

     Police are investigating a traffic accident in Western Division today (April 10) in which an elderly woman died and two other men were injured.

     About 12.40pm, a tow truck driven by a 43-year-old man was towing a light goods vehicle (LGV) which broke down on Eastern Street near Queen's Road West. The LGV reportedly slided backward and rammed onto the pavement, then hit two male and one female pedestrians.

     The 84-year-old woman sustained multiple injuries and was certified dead at scene while the other two men aged 58 and 77 sustained injuries to their forehead and arm respectively and were sent to Queen Mary Hospital for medial treatment.

     The 43-year-old male tow truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island, are under way.
