Cluster of respiratory symptoms cases in Tai Po Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Tai Po Hospital (TPH) made the following announcement today (April 5):

     Four patients (aged 39 to 80) and two staff members in the female adult psychiatric ward have presented with fever and upper respiratory symptoms since March 28. Appropriate viral tests were arranged and they returned negative results for Influenza A and B and Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The patients are being treated under isolation and the staff members are on sick leave. They are all in stable condition.

     Admission and visiting to the ward concerned has been suspended and measures to restrict discharge activities have also been implemented. The hospital has stepped up infection control measures and the condition of the other patients in the ward is under close surveillance.

     The TPH Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection.
