Following the recent opening of the "Beyond the Curtain”DEnvision the City" exhibition, the first phase of the public art project "ArtAlive@Park 2012", a series of colourful programmes and activities will be held at the Tsim Sha Tsui East Waterfront Podium Garden from this Saturday (April 7) to May 31.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "ArtAlive@Park 2012" is organised by the Art Promotion Office with Hulu Culture invited as curatorial collaborator. The Faculty of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Division of Building Science and Technology of the City University of Hong Kong have provided artistic collaboration. Programme collaborators include Don't Believe in Style, Studio de Dimension de Tofu, Lung and Lam Company Limited, Horizonte, Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong and Hiromi Company.
"Beyond the Curtain”DEnvision the City", the first exhibition in "ArtAlive@Park 2012", is running until May 31 at the Tsim Sha Tsui East Waterfront Podium Garden and features artworks created by students of the Faculty of Architecture of HKU. The participating students have applied engineering logic and aesthetics to explore and incorporate the conditions specific to the location into their works, which greatly enhance the attraction of the waterfront park amid the layers of illumination on both sides of Victoria Harbour.
Apart from showing the artworks by students, the project organisers have also organised a series of performances and activities for public participation. These include the motion graphic presentation "Night of a Thousand Stars", the drama performance "A Dialogue with Art", "Combustive Percussion", the a cappella performance "Musika Sans Fronteras", "Joyful Dance Fusion", and "Dreams Light Up the Sky". All activities are free and will offer visitors an opportunity for relaxation, entertainment and pleasure.
On April 7, three exciting programmes will be held at the Tsim Sha Tsui East Waterfront Podium Garden, bringing the public a fun-filled Easter holiday. Dr Lung Heung-wing, a passionate percussionist who is devoted to using percussion to promote music to young people, will bring "Combustive Percussion" to visitors. He will perform with numerous homemade musical instruments, including even kitchenware and local Hong Kong daily necessities, and lead the audience to perform thematic songs at the waterfront in unison. "Combustive Percussion" will take place from 3pm to 3.30pm on April 7 and April 29.
Those who like jazz and pop songs shouldn't miss the a cappella performance by Orange this Saturday entitled "Musika Sans Fronteras". Orange is an a cappella group formed by passionate young people. They will perform more than 10 songs, including folk ballads, pop music and jazz, including their own original songs. Visitors can enjoy the pleasant waterfront scenery while enjoying the beautiful and touching melodies. The programme will take place from 4pm to 4.45pm on April 7.
In the evening, visitors can also experience "Night of a Thousand Stars", a motion graphic presentation which adds colours to the night view of Tsim Sha Tsui East. While buildings on both sides of Victoria Harbour are lit up with their colourful neon signs in the evening, forming an attractive night scene at Tsim Sha Tsui East, the moving images projected onto the artworks will add colours to the pretty night view of the harbour. "Night of a Thousand Stars" will take place from 7.30pm on April 7 and 28 and on May 19.
