Arts and fun for all in LCSD parks (with photos)
************************************************

A new round of the arts fun fair, a popular event organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will soon be launched in Kowloon Park. Individuals and subvented non-governmental organisations who are interested in operating the stalls can submit applications from tomorrow (April 2).

Beginning on June 1 this year, the arts fun fair at the Loggia, Kowloon Park will be open from 1pm to 7pm on Sundays and public holidays until May 31 next year. The fair will feature a total of 30 stalls selling handicrafts and artworks including pottery, straw-weaving work, dough models, paper craftwork, carving work, accessories, floral artwork, sand paintings, cloth artwork and clay work. Artistic services such as photography, painting, calligraphy, silhouette cutting and sketching or caricature will also be on offer.

Prospectuses and application forms are available from tomorrow at 1/F, Kowloon Park Management Office, 22 Austin Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, or can be downloaded from the Park's website (www.lcsd.gov.hk/parks/kp/en/arts_and_crafts.php). The management office is open from 8.30am to 6.15pm from Mondays to Fridays, and is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Completed application forms, together with sample(s) of artwork or handicrafts (not more than three pieces) and copies of relevant proof of professional knowledge in the respective field (if any), should be submitted to the Kowloon Park Management Office during its office hours on or before April 23. The Arts Fun Fair Vetting Panel will consider the applications based on the variety, quality, creativity, artistic merit and attractiveness of the handicrafts or arts services, as well as applicants' relevant professional skills.

Successful applicants are required to pay a registration fee of $100 and a security deposit of $1,000 for each stall. The security deposit will be refunded on the completion of the agreement, on condition that the stall operator has operated the stall for not less than 60 per cent of the total business days stipulated in the agreement. Successful applicants are required to effect and keep in force a public liability insurance with an indemnity of not less than HK$6.5 million during the agreement period.

Besides Kowloon Park, arts fun fairs will also be held at Victoria Park and Hong Kong Park. Stalls at the South Pavilion Plaza of Victoria Park are now operating between 10am and 6pm on Sundays and public holidays until March 31 next year. The stalls will be suspended during the period when major events are being held in Victoria Park. For those who like to dress up, there are many glamorous accessories and cloth artworks for them to pick and choose. They may also capture their photogenic beauty in front of various backdrops at the photo stalls.

Members of the public can also visit the booths operating in the outdoor area near the Flagstaff House Museum of Teaware in Hong Kong Park from noon to 6pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays until December 31.

The arts fun fairs at the three parks offer a wide array of goods catering for different interests and tastes. Some appeal to visitors' nostalgia for traditional calligraphy while others will interest those who like the eye-catching cloth artwork and accessories. Come and visit the fairs to satisfy your shopping wishes!
