******************************************************

     The Transport Department (TD) today (March 30) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in Central and Western District from about 3pm this Sunday (April 1) to facilitate the holding of a public procession.

     The procession will start from the Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct in Central via Pedder Street, Queen's Road Central, Queen's Road West, Chiu Kwong Street and finish at Des Voeux Road West.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

Road closure
------------

    The following roads will be closed from about 3pm:

1. The section of Pedder Street between Des Voeux Road Central and Queen's Road Central;
2. the section of Queen's Road Central between Pedder Street and Possession Street;
3. the section of Queen's Road West between Possession Street and Chiu Kwong Street;
4. Chiu Kwong Street northbound;
5. the section of Des Voeux Road West between Western Street and Water Street intermittently; and
6. Chiu Kwong Street southbound.

Public transport services
-------------------------

1. A total of 40 bus routes and three green minibus routes operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted. All bus stops along the procession route will be suspended. Public transport operators will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.
2. The taxi stand at Pedder Street northbound will be temporarily suspended from 2.30pm until the crowd is dispersed and traffic resumes normal.

Closure of carparks
-------------------

     All carparks along Queen's Road Central between Garden Road and Possession Street and Queen's Road West between Possession Street and Chiu Kwong Street may be closed at short notice if necessary. In addition, vehicles may not be permitted to leave or access the carparks along the procession route during the road closure period until the roads are re-opened to traffic.

     The TD and the police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures as and when necessary. Motorists and the public should watch out for the latest traffic news broadcast via media.

     Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are now available at the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk). For further queries, please contact the 1823 Call Centre (Tel: 1823).
