In conjunction with the "Hong Kong Currency" exhibition, the Hong Kong Museum of History has published a new edition of the "Hong Kong Currency" catalogue to illustrate the development of Hong Kong's coinage and paper money from the mid-19th century to the present. Supplemented with detailed descriptions and invaluable historical photographs, this catalogue is a collectable item that reveals the many interesting stories behind Hong Kong's currency.
The "Hong Kong Currency" exhibition, the largest show of its kind in the history of Hong Kong in terms of the number and variety of exhibits, is currently on show at the Hong Kong Museum of History and will run until June 4. It features about 700 artefacts including coins and paper money from the museum collection and a large quantity of items being showcased for the first time, such as pattern coins, hubs and dies for coins circulated in Hong Kong, plaster models for commemorative gold coins, draft banknote designs, specimen notes, steel plates for note printing and more.
The exhibition catalogue is a comprehensive record of the coinage and paper money of Hong Kong from the 1840s to the present. Contents of the new edition extend to the 21st century, covering the bauhinia coins as well as the 2010 banknote series issued by the three note-issuing banks. The catalogue has also seen more images of early coinage and notes added, along with invaluable historical photographs, offering readers unparalleled insight into the development of Hong Kong's currency.
With 308 pages and priced at $150, the catalogue is now available at the Gift Shop of the Hong Kong Museum of History.
The Hong Kong Museum of History is located at 100 Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. It opens from 10am to 6pm on Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 7pm on Sundays and public holidays. It is closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays).
