Police strive to ensure safety of Indonesia President

    The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr H Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, will lead a delegation to officially visit Hong Kong for two days from March 24 to 25.

    The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, will meet with the president and host an official dinner for him on March 24 at Government House. The president will also meet with local businessmen and the Indonesian community in Hong Kong during his visit.

    ¡§In view of the current heightened international terrorist situation, Police will enhance security measures in order to ensure the personal safety of the President,¡¨ a Police spokesman said today (March 23).

    ¡§Appropriate protective coverage including personal and traffic escort will be provided to the President throughout his stay in Hong Kong. Temporary traffic and pedestrian access diversion may occur which may cause inconvenience to members of the public and other road users.

    ¡§We appeal to the public for their understanding and patience and to follow the advice given by police officers. Motorists are also urged to take heed of traffic signs and follow the instructions of the Traffic Police at scene.

    ¡§While striving to ensure a safe visit of the President, Police will keep inconvenience to the public to a minimum,¡¨ the spokesman said.
