The Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department has since February been presenting a series of joint school concerts under the title "Something Green in Music". Primary and secondary school students participating in the final three concerts, to be held from March 27 to April 2, will showcase their creativity by devising a variety of musical performances on environmental protection.
Twenty-seven primary and secondary schools will perform in these last three concerts. The concert on Tuesday (March 27) at 7.30pm in the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall will feature several choral performances, including Rutter's "Look at the world" and the theme song for Hong Kong's geological wonders, "Close at Hand".
The concert on Thursday (March 29) at 7.30pm in the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall will present the West African traditional music pieces "Dibon" and "Tiriba", a Chinese music ensemble playing Guangxi traditional music including "The Beautiful Zhuanjin", and a students' collective work on environmental-related music titled "The Earth”PGreen".
The final concert, which will take place on April 2 (Monday) at 3pm in the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall, will include a Chinese music ensemble playing the traditional Tibetan piece "Tibet in Tian Shan", a recorder ensemble playing Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" and a Western music ensemble playing "English Folk Song Suite - Somerset".
To encourage students to strive for excellence in music, creative thinking, communication skills and team co-operation, various awards including Virtuoso Performance, Theme Presentation, Potential Performers, and Charming Stage Performance will be presented at the concerts. Members of the audience will also be invited to vote for the Audience's Favourite Award at each concert, both to support the students' performances and to enhance interaction during the concerts.
Tickets priced at $40 for the three joint concerts are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 and above, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
